Katherine Castle was born in 1970 close to Sydney. She grew up surrounded by birds and animals. Katherine’s family took in injured wildlife to care for so they had a large variety of animals from birds to wombats, wallabies, and possums. They also bred a large variety of birds.
In Katherine’s adolescent years they had a sheep property near Goulburn where they spent their weekends in the country. All of this fostered her love of wildlife and nature. When Katherine left school she completed an art diploma at TAFE majoring in photography. Other subjects were color and design, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, etc.
After two years full time at TAFE, Katherine worked in the graphic design and photography industries for five years until she left to start her own graphic design business. Once her children were born she worked as an artist in between looking after her children. Katherine has worked as basically a full-time artist since her kids were at school.
Over the last few years with Maxwell and Williams publishing her work on their fine bone china products and selling them around the world and with a book cover, calendars, and other items using her images, her reputation as an artist has grown rapidly.
Katherine now lives with her two children in the Northern Rivers, NSW working full time as an artist from her studio at home.
Katherine has been creating Australian Wildlife Artwork for over 20 years. Her works are commissioned for businesses such as Maxwell Williams, for galleries, and for personal collections. Australian birds & wildlife continue to inspire her paintings and prints.
