Australian artists she has studied with include Joseph Attard, Colin Johnson, Greg Allen and Cathy Van Ee. In 2013, she held a major solo exhibition at St Pauls Cathedral, Melbourne. She also regularly participates in local exhibitions and shows.
Fiona delights in sharing techniques through workshops and classes that help her students’ ideas take wings. An enthusiastic presenter, her workshops inform and inspire. Her broad experience as a public speaker enables her to communicate her artistic knowledge with humour, practical help and encouragement.
Her childhood interest in drawing and painting led to art classes in high school where she won some awards for drawing and mixed media work in watercolour and pen and ink. Travel, marriage and motherhood dominated the next 15 years with only an occasional sketch or painting until in 2006 she decided to make room in her life to focus on art and 8 years on is loving the creative process more than ever.
“My love of landscape was shaped by years traveling in Australia and West Africa – driving through the bush, sleeping under the stars, and living amongst nomads. Returning to my childhood love of drawing and painting in 2007, I am enjoying exploring a variety of subjects. Working in acrylic, oil, and watercolor, I strive to capture something of those moments of beauty that are so arresting and, for me, filled with hope and joy. I am a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists.“~ Fiona Valentine
