‘Fusion Art’ is the manipulation of photography in order to challenge popular conventions. It brings a rise to a unique, artistic display of photography.
The concept of ‘fusion photography’ takes two previously unrelated entities and melds them together. Creating the one synthesized photographic image. The first image represents a living entity, while the second image represents the essence or character of the first (image). Bjorn Hansen has chosen to synthesize two components. These are an image of a living being (typically a female form) and the second image is of a natural or man-made, non-living structure. Such as a mechanical device, a cliff-face, a flower, a waterfall, or other such elements.
Bjorn Hansen has worked within the photography industry for over four decades. During his early years as a photographer, he was employed by a newspaper within his hometown and had also taught photography in evening classes, whilst also working with portraits, fashion shows, and other events. During these formative years as a photographer, he recognized and appreciated the power of an image and the story it was able to convey. This had led him to experiment with the merging of images into a single, synthesized composition.
Ulla Abildgaard’s artwork explores the smoothness of pastels. Revealing a peaceful softness and almost dreamy energy. Each piece contains the endless possibilities of using a multitude of layers of vibrant acrylic on canvas. Utilizing this style, Ulla Abildgaard achieves a sense of realism and rawness. Her portraits exude an ‘insensitivity’. A word Ulla herself created to describe the attempt to capture depth in poses and in the eyes of the facial expression.
Both Ulla and Bjorn now work together, merging painting and photography to create a beautiful medium and stunning results.
