The Beach

The Beach is an original work and is part of a series called ‘Earth and Ocean’.
The Beach was inspired by the beauty of Kawana on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as well as my concern about the quantity of discarded plastic that is found there. On close inspection of the work the viewer can see the textures of the sand, the still water of the rockpools which line the headland and the surf from an birdseye view. The organic nature of this landscape is juxtaposed to the branches tied with nylon cord which represents the way plastics are strangling our beach environments.
The surface of this work is multi-textural through the use of acrylic paint, resin, sand, branches, nylon cord and modelling compound.
Materials used: Acrylic paint, fiberglass and found objects on qual primmed stretched canvas.
Ready to hang and the sides of the canvas have been painted white.
Stretched Canvas Size: 90 cm X 45 cm with sticks overhanding by 10 cm on either side

I like how the artwork also comprises of artefacts found on the beach to further illustrate the atmosphere there. Flat paintings are beautiful but 3D art really brings the picture to life.
