Disc 1

Adriaan VanDerLugt
Adriaan Vanderlugt was born in the Netherlands and grew up in Canada. Upon graduating from High School in 1962, his art career began in a Graphic Design Studio in Hamilton, Ontario. He exhibited his first sculpture in a juried exhibition in 1970 in Hamilton and won awards in the Ontario Craft Foundation ’75 and had designs accepted in a Lettergraphics International Alphabet Design competition in the USA.
Adriaan has been carving bone, stone, wood, marble and metal for over four decades and his sculptures of animals, birds and fish are held in collections around the world. He also designs and makes furniture.

Brigitte & Karl Eggert of Art Gilding
Karl is a Master Gilder who trained as a church restorer and gilder in Cologne, Germany – Art Gilding was founded by Brigitte and Karl Eggert in 1976. According to Karl, gilding was once a secret craft that was passed on from father to son, but today he enjoys teaching students from across Australia – and the world – from their Art Gilding Academy. “It’s our mission to pass on our considerable skills to anyone who wishes to learn this age-old craft of gilding,” says wife Brigitte.

Disc 2

Joy Day
While living at her grandmothers Joy came across a doilie holder that was created in poker work . The colours and the method fascinated her and she first tried her own version working with a hot wire heated over the stove but it lost heat quickly. Joy then investigate alternatives and moved on to a soldering iron .This too proved hard to use. It was then she came across a more expensive machine, the heat regulated nichrome wire poker work machine. She had finally found her tool and has used it now for over 40 years. Joy says they do last as she is only on her second one. Nibs however she goes through many but the machine she says is magic.

Harvey Leach
Harvey cut his first inlay when he was in high school. Harvey’s first “inlay” was actually a cavity the shape of a heart in a banjo fret board made from an ill-advised cherry. Rather than actually cut something to fit he simply filled the cavity with Plastic Wood… Harvey has come a long way since!
