Description

Colour In Your Life DVD Set 27 – Oil

Disc 1

Mike Harold
Mike Harold is a painter from Dannevirke in the Tararua district of New Zealand. He is best known for his quirky, narrative work. In recent years Mike has exhibited three major series in this genre: ‘Kilmore and Beyond’, ‘Last Foxtrot in Mangakino’ and most recently ‘Peas and Onions for Tea’. Mike’s painting is especially influenced by the narrative works of two important Australian painters; the modernist Sydney Nolan (especially the Ned Kelly series) and the more quirky, lyrical present-day work of Garry Shead.

Uma Barry
Uma Barry is a self-taught artist specializing in oil paintings. Her work has become an irreplaceable part of her life. Inspired by her parents, she began her career in Fine Arts in Fiji at the age of 15. Obtaining conventional paints in Fiji was difficult at the time, so Uma’s early pieces of work (figurative paintings of Indian mythology and folklore) were made with Dulux house paints. After finishing high school, Uma painted while working full-time in a law firm for a couple of years. She moved to Australia after her wedding in 1983. She was fascinated by the unfamiliar Australian bush and seaside, which became the subject of her new oil paintings. Uma won her first major award in the Royal Melbourne Show of 1988. In the following years, she established her home studio as the sole proprietor, allowing her to sell her work on commission.

Disc 2

Barbara Stanton
Barbara Stanton is a native Californian and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life. Specializing in miniature oil paintings and portraits (miniature and full size) her charming landscapes, still life’s and portraits are done in a very traditional, realist style. Her superb use of color and light make each piece glow. The precisely detailed compositions, some no larger than a postage stamp, call out to the viewer to step nearer and explore them more closely, to feel the moment.

Becky Robbins
Becky has always been enchanted by the power of art, she bought books on techniques, went to see wonderful art, read about artists and their lives and watched from the outside looking through the window like a child’s wish to make it real. It was that obsession paired with opportunity that Life allowed Becky to dip in the waters of creativity.
