Description

Colour In Your Life DVD Set 36 – Mixed Media

Disc 1

Donna Racovalis
Donna is a self-taught Australian artist whose practice includes sculpture, painting and installation. Utilising all sorts of recyclable interesting materials, Donna’s works are flamboyant and expressive in nature. Donna enjoys researching her subjects, investigates their struggles and their stories. She ponders on the stories and gives them a voice, a voice some may never have heard before. She puts them into a collective collaboration of information and brings them to life on canvas with bright vivacious colours, simple black and white and neutral too.

Fiona Kerr-Gedson
Fiona works from her home near Opotiki, in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, where she lives with her two daughters, her two sons having recently left home. Fiona’s work allows her to reflect and pay honor to the things that are of importance to her. Fiona is fortunate to be well represented throughout New Zealand, and has been included in group exhibitions in France, Los Angeles and Japan. The recent tartan theme has come about as her work has developed more structure. In her previous work the lines and angles have reflected Taaniko and Tukutuku panel designs. The tartan series celebrates Fiona’s Scottish heritage. It was inspired by a visit from a cousin who shared his knowledge of the Kerr family history. The solid Tartan works conjure feelings of nostalgia, history and heritage; works 9-12 have a more contemporary feel for Fiona.

Disc 2

Douglass Brown

Douglass Brown grew up in Silicon Valley, California at a time when companies actually made the chips there instead of designing and having them made elsewhere in the world. Doug’s first job in high tech was washing diffusion tubes, the 7 to 8 foot long test tube looking chambers where vapors are deposited onto the chips. They had a glass blower that would come in to fix broken glass at the facility. Doug kept him busy!
Douglass Brown found himself at 23 young traveling in Europe, living off the proceeds of a sale of a property he had owned for a short time. He had just gotten off a tall ship in Jersey and stumbled into a cafe in St Malo France that took his breathe away. Deeply carved, sand blasted glass in large format widows depicting sailing ships was too hard for him to resist. Doug studied them and promised himself he would return to the states and do this art!

Noula Diamantopoulos

Noula Diamantopoulos studied and became a qualified accountant which developed into an international taxation manager role in the oil and gas industry. Towards the end of completing her 2nd degree in Law, the way Noula saw life changed.
In 1996 Noula Diamantopoulos began to pursue creative thinking, philosophy and psychology. This path brought Noula to the arts and a change in career. In 1998 Noula rented her first art studio and soon after began teaching classical and ancient art techniques and creating innovative thinking programs for corporations.
