His art graces the walls of many private and corporate collectors worldwide.
Alan James currently teaches watercolors, at his studio in Deep River, CT; at Jerry’s Artarama, and at the historic Lyme Art Association, the birth place of American impressionism.
His teaching style is comprehensive, and many of his students have gone on to become successful artists in their own right.
In 2018, Alan released his first instructional video called “Letting it Flow” which includes five demonstrations. The emphasis being on how to capture the essence of a scene, and designed with beginners and intermediate students in mind.
The tutorial airing today shows how to “Let It Flow” in a beautiful Connecticut scene from Saybrook Point, Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Alan James shares his tips and techniques for brush technique to create loose strokes and soft edges, as well as adding shadows, contrast and depth to buildings with juicy darks.
