Hi Romina, I have entered in competitions and found that many times the judge (when an artist) is very influenced by their style of painting and the medium they prefer to work in. I met several “artists” who only enter competitions where a certain judge was adjudicating. The reason being he or she paints in the medium I use and/or in my style. So its all very subjective and now days I sell my work through a local coffee shop. Because in the end the buyers don’t really care if you have won an art contest they will buy what they personally like. I offered the cafe a 25% commission and they were only too happy to display my work on their walls as its extra income for them. The walls are now a potential earner for them. They promote my work for me as it is a win/win situation.
I have just started a social media page to advertise myself and my work. I don’t really have enough time to spend on social media when I would rather be painting; but it is a necessary evil.
All the best
