Alan James demonstrates an expressive watercolor sky in just 3 minutes!

A self-taught artist and musician, Alan has loved art from a young age, and was often found perfecting his first self-portraits in school, when he probably should have been focusing on other studies.

Alan, who has spent his life working as a musician and an artist, grew up in North Haven, and now lives in Deep River, Connecticut.

During the past few years art has completely taken over and become his main focus.

Around town, he may be better known as a musician than a visual artist. He spent a large chunk of time from the late ’70s until around 2012 pursuing his music career as both a solo artist and as part of band, playing a variety of instruments including the guitar, drums, and mandolin, among others.

In life and art, James keeps an optimistic view.

“I’m not a picketer: I won’t scream what’s wrong with the world, but I will scream what’s right with the world,” he said. “Let’s take the good stuff and make it a part of our lives.”
